“I’ve Got This!” says God
As I walk with God on this journey of life, He continually reminds me, “I’ve got this; I’ve got you.” Instead of being afraid and not moving forward in trust, I am learning from Scripture,
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7 NASB)
Letting Go
My head knows His Spirit only speaks truth, but my heart finds itself in the well-formed rut of fear. How do I let go? How do I rest in Him when my world seems to be out of control? Well, we can be like a child in the arms of a loving parent. I’m reminded of when I held a baby who wouldn’t or couldn’t stop crying. No amount of rocking or sweet words would calm her down. The more she fought, the more distressed she became. Peace only came when she stopped trying so hard to get her way. When she truly released, she fell asleep. Her breathing and heart rate slowed down, her muscles relaxed, and even her facial expression softened. She was at peace.
The change happened when she surrendered.
Learning From a Child
We can learn from her example when we find ourselves stressed by the world, others, or even our own doing. We find the rest and peace we need in the arms of our Father God. The key is that we must trust, relax, and breathe.
“What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
Leaning on the everlasting arms?
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.”
(Elisha A. Hoffman, 1887)
